Message from the President of the University of Toronto and the President of The Michener Institute for Applied Health Sciences
The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Toronto and The Michener Institute for Applied Health Sciences welcome the opportunity to provide students with new joint degree/diploma programs in medical radiation sciences-the first of its kind in Canada. Together we are committed to providing an outstanding educational experience. The fundamental mission of the Faculty of Medicine is to be an internationally significant research institution, with undergraduate, graduate and professional programs of excellent quality. The Faculty's solid reputation in undergraduate and graduate education is based on the high quality of its undergraduate degree programs in Medicine, Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy, and its graduate degree programs in Speech-Language Pathology, Biomedical Communications, Basic Medical Sciences, Rehabilitation Sciences, Clinical Sciences and Community Health. Through the Faculty's dual emphasis on education and research, students have the opportunity not only to be exposed to existing knowledge, but also to create knowledge through opportunities to work with Faculty members who are leaders in their fields.
The Michener Institute has extensive experience in preparing professionals to work in the health care system. With expertise in the design and delivery of applied health sciences programs, in Ontario as well as nationally and internationally, Michener takes pride in providing programs with small class sizes, faculty who are experienced and respected in their disciplines, state-of-the-art technology in its laboratories and an optimum balance of didactic, practical and clinical experience. The Michener Institute has earned its reputation for excellence based on results-graduate employment rates are consistently over 90% every year (97% in the most recent survey, with 89% employed in a related field within three months).
Through the Faculty of Medicine and The Michener Institute, this program will be affiliated with a network of teaching hospitals and community-based health agencies that will offer students a broad spectrum of clinical education to round out their educational experience and provide a bridge to the real world of the practitioner.
The Michener Institute holds its annual Open House on the third Thursday and Friday in November every year-drop by, check it out and ask questions.
