- BUBL LINK: Libraries of Networked Knowledge - An Internet-based information service for the UK higher education community. The project seeks to organize and categorize the best Internet starting points for research.

- The Canadian Encyclopedia Online - A basic resource with information about Canada, the land, people, and politics.
- DeskRef: Quick Reference Links - Over 700 links to quick lookup items, including maps, dictionaries, calendars, countries, biographies and more.
- Dictionary of Canadian Biography Online - This site is provided by the online Library and Archives of Canada, and contains 8000 biographical profiles from Canadian history from the year 1000 to 1930. Visitors can search by an individual's name or by topic, date range, or geography.

- Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary and Thesaurus
- OneLook Dictionaries - This site contains an index to definitions and translations for over 4 million words in more than 700 online dictionaries. If you are unsure of the exact spelling, type in the known letters with wildcard symbols such as "*" and "?", to retrieve a list of matching words.
- Simpson's Contemporary Quotations - Contains a searchable database of over 10,000 quotations from 4,000 sources organized into 25 categories
- Subject Index to Literature on Electronic Sources of Information - This index deals with all aspects of electronic publishing and includes print and non-print materials, periodical articles, monographs and individual chapters in collected works. The accompanying "Electronic Sources of Information: A Bibliography" includes over 1,300 titles. Both the Index and the Bibliography are continuously updated. Created at the University of Saskatchewan libraries.

- The World FactBook - For any country of the world, view its map, flag, and facts on the country's geography, people, government, economy, communications, transportation, military, international disputes, etc. This publication is updated annually, and may be viewed online or downloaded as a PDF file.

- Chronicle of Higher Education Online - This web site offers access to the last ten years of the online version of The Chronicle of Higher Education, a weekly academic news and information publication. This resource contains complete census of population data for 1986, 1991, 1996, 2001 and 2006, information from historical censuses in 1665-1871, plus over one thousand dimensional tables on health, social and economic data from CANSIM II, Statistics Canada's major time series database. Built-in software creates customized maps, graphs, and tables according to your specifications. Links include excerpts from the Canada Year Book plus articles and research papers by Statistics Canada staff, and information on research methods. Access to this resource is limited to authorized Michener users. - Canada Year Book overview Based on the Canada Year Book 2007, Overview 2007 offers an overview of trends in Canada, organized under approximately 20 headings, as well as brief articles on more recent developments. Medical Dictionaries and Terminology
- ARGH-Biomedical Acronym Resolver - From the University of Texas Southwestern Computational Biology Group, this database identifies "acronyms/abbreviations and their definitions within MEDLINE records. Currently, it is the world's largest and most comprehensive catalog of biomedical acronyms and abbreviations". The database allows users to search for definitions by entering an acronym or abbreviation, as well as to search for acronyms and abbreviations by entering a word or phrase.
- Medical Terminology - NEW! This free online course includes 24 lessons for learning medical terminology.
- Medical Terminology Web - NEW! Medical word lists and exercises from the English Centre of the University of Hong Kong.
- MediLexicon - NEW! Free online database of over 70,000 pharmaceutical and medical abbreviations. Visitors quickly and easily find definitions for acronyms and abbreviations in medicine, pharmacy, biotechnology, and more. The Web site also offers the latest medical news (updated daily), which readers may choose to receive as an email newsletter every two weeks.

- A Short Course in Medical Terminology - NEW! "A fast and easy way to learn medical words and meanings" available from Des Moines University.
- Virtual Learning Center - NEW! This online course on medical terminology is free, but requires registration.
Medical Images and Anatomy
- Anatomy Atlases - This digital library of anatomy information contains links to online textbooks and atlases on gross, microscopic and cross-sectional anatomy. It includes a simple search function.
- DermAtlas - This site includes almost 10,000 high quality dermatology images, and is searchable by diagnoses, categories of disease, body sites, skin pigmentation, or the contributor of the image. Designed by B.A. Cohen and C.U. Lehmann of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Please read the disclaimer regarding use of the images.
- Digital Anatomist Project, of the University of Washington. Interactive atlases on the thorax, heart, neuroanatomy, and the knee. Each Atlas is comprised of a set of "structurally annotated" color images of each subject area containing 2-D and 3-D images from "cadaver sections, MRI scans, and computer reconstructions." Quizzes allow users to self-test knowledge on each topic.
- Images.MD - NEW! A database of over 70,000 full-sized, high quality medical images from more than 100 collections and 2,000 contributors, supervised and updated by Tufts Medical Center. This is a paid subscription available to authorized Michener users.
- Science goes to the Movies - Lists moving images collected and managed by Moving Image Collections (MIC) participating organizations.
- Visible Body - This beta site consists of highly detailed, anatomically accurate, 3D models of human body systems. It is free but requires sign up and acceptance of terms of use which include no copying, uploading, linking, redistribution, etc. without permission.
- Whole Brain Atlas - This is a very well reviewed information resource for central nervous system imaging which integrates clinical information with magnetic resonance (MR), x-ray computed tomography (CT), and nuclear medicine images. It's a catalogue of images of actual human brains, from normal, healthy specimens to those showing evidence of the progression of Alzheimer's disease, brain tumors and other brain ailments.
Medical Resources
- Bandolier - This UK site is a source of evidence-based information, derived from systematic reviews and meta-analyses appearing in PubMed and the Cochrane Library. It is partly a "print and Internet journal about health care, using evidence-based medicine techniques to provide advice about particular treatments or diseases for healthcare professionals and consumers." There are also sub sites, called resource centres, on topics such as cancer, migraine, and women's health.
- Biochemistry - Companion Web Site to accompany the third edition of Biochemistry by Mathews, van Holde, and Ahern by publisher Addison-Wesley.
- Canadian Best Practices Portal for Health Promotion and Chronic Disease Prevention - This portal is an online resource with evidence-based best practices interventions, systematic reviews and resources for decision-makers working in health promotion and chronic disease prevention.
- Canadian Health Network - Organized into major health topics, this site has links to 5000 internet based resources. Developed by Health Canada and 400 Canadian health organizations.
- Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) is the major federal agency responsible for funding health research in Canada.
- Contact, Help, Advice and Information Networks (CHAIN) is a network designed to facilitate links between health care professionals, specialists, researchers, educators, managers, librarians and other professionals. It is available in Canada through the Cochrane Effective Practice and Organisation of Care Group (EPOC) and is also a successful network in the United Kingdom National Health Service programme.
- CPS - Based on the Canadian Pharmacists Association's Compendium of Pharmaceuticals, e-CPS provides access to the most current information on drugs available in Canada. - Drug Facts: a drug, herbal, interaction and disease info resource - Free reference and professional resources for pharmacists and patients, including Drug Facts. Provided by Facts and Comparisons.
- Hardin Meta-Directory - Meta-directory of Internet health sources, including electronic journals. Developed by the Hardin Library at the University of Iowa.
- Health Education Assets Library (HEAL) - This site contains "a digital library of freely accessible, web-based multimedia teaching materials" on health topics. Over 22,000 resources include MedlinePlus Interactive Health Tutorials, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland Illustrations, NeuroLogic Exam: An Anatomical Approach, and the University of Utah's "HyperHeart" animation. The health sciences files are searchable by subject or by collection.
- Healthfinder: Health Information Guide - A gateway to reliable information on 1000 health topics, produced by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), National Inst. of Health (NIH) and the National Library of Medicine (NLM).
- HEALTHmap - NEW! Created by a team of
researchers based at the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences &
Technology, this project brings together aggregate data on diseases around the world. Using a series of boxes, visitors can toggle on and off various diseases on the world map. Based on data from the World Health Organization, Google News, and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control.
HealthWeb - An interface providing subject-organized access to evaluated non-commercial health-related Internet resources. A collaborative project of twenty health sciences libraries of the greater midwest National Network of Libraries of Medicine. - HealthyOntario.com - This is a consumer health web portal featuring information on specific health conditions, drug information, listings of local and regional health services close to the user, and links to other useful healthcare resources such as a physician locator to help Ontarians find a family doctor. It is operated by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.
- HIV Medicine - Christian Hoffmann, Jürgen Rockstroh, and Bernd Sebastian Kamps (Editors). Flying Publisher, 2006. Sections in the table of contents include: Basics, HAART, AIDS , Special Topics , Drugs. This book is downloadable (825 pages, PDF, 5.3 MB).
- Human Body and Mind-Interactive Body - The BBC network's online Science & Nature site allows visitors to explore the human body interactively. Choose the gender of the body then look through the organs, muscles, skeleton, and nervous system. Learn about the functions and properties of each organ, etc., then drag it to the correct location in the body.
- i-medicine.info: Diseases Database - This is a cross-referenced index and search portal covering Symptoms and Signs, General Internal Medical Disorders, Drugs and Medications, Congenital and Inherited Disorders, and more. It contains dictionary type definitions using links to the National Library of Medicine's Unified Medical Language System, and a multiple search engine inquiry page.
- Lab Tests Online - NEW! Search for information on laboratory tests by test name, by disease/condition, or by screening population.
- Lab Training Library - Award winning training software from MTS and the University of Washington Department of Laboratory Medicine, designed to build competency in clinical laboratory testing. Access is limited to authorized Michener Institute users. Each user must create an individual account by entering a Lab Code and a valid Michener email address. The Lab Code can be obtained from a Medical Laboratory Science faculty member or from the LRC. This site requires Internet Explorer 5.0 or above.
- Martindale's Health Science Guide - Contains 61,000 teaching files, 130,000 medical cases, etc. Produced by Jim Martindale, hosted by the University of California Irvine Science Library.
- Medline Plus - Collection of sources of health information, drug information, medical dictionaries and directories. A service of the U.S. National Library of Medicine.
- Merck Manual of Diagnosis and Therapy - The 17th edition (1999) of the Merck Manual is available online at this site, plus a home version and geriatric and veterinary manuals. The manual contains reliable and easy-to-use medical information in 309 chapters, searchable by keyword.
- Microbiology and Immunology On-line - This award-winning microbiology and immunology online textbook is based on a University of South Carolina School of Medicine course for second-year medical students. The hypertext contains five major parts with numerous chapters within each: Immunology, Bacteriology, Virology, Parasitology, and Mycology. Many chapters are accompanied by auxiliary PowerPoint slide files and downloadable documents (some of which are password protected). The site also offers quizzes, a Virus Glossary, and many related links.
- Molecular Biology of the Cell - This book, as well as other titles on molecular biology and genetics, are available from the National Library of Medicine.
- National Women's Health Information Center - This site offers information on women's health, covering hundreds of health topics listed alphabetically or by keyword. It is sponsored by the US Department of Health and Human Services.
- Tuberculosis: from basic science to patient care - This 685-page online textbook (2007) is edited by Juan Carlos Palomino, Sylvia Cardoso Leπo, and Viviana Ritacco in response to the Amedeo Challenge to write and publish a medical textbook on tuberculosis.
- Virtual Hospital - This is a useful medical reference tool for both health care professionals and patients. Hundreds of authoritative sources of medical information are listed, organized in a variety of ways; users can browse by medical problem, organ system, or hospital department. Provided by the University of Iowa.
- Virtual Labs - NEW! Includes Transgenic Fly Virtual Lab, Bacterial Identification Lab (e.g. isolate whole bacterial DNA, make copies of the piece of DNA, sequence and analyze it), Cardiology Lab, Neurophysiology Lab, Immunology Lab. Award winning site produced by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI).
