Services and Collections
Print and Multimedia Collection:
The Learning Resource Centre (LRC) supports learning with a collection of books and print journals, including special collections for examination review guides, laboratory standards, and government documents. An extensive multimedia collection is also available. Multimedia viewing facilities are provided and advance bookings may be arranged.
Catalogue:
A computerized catalogue facilitates searching our book and multimedia collections. The catalogue is accessible within Michener from the LRC catalogue icon or remotely via the LRC website.
Electronic Journals:
Full-text electronic journals (Ebsco, ScienceDirect, Synergy and others) and indexes (PubMed, CINAHL, ERIC) are accessible at Michener or remotely via the Journals page on the LRC website. Some titles are freely available, while others require authentication and are limited to staff with GroupWise passwords.
Purchases:
All book orders are processed in the LRC, including materials for the Learning Resource Centre collection, professional development funded purchases, and clinical site resources. To request professional development funded purchases for clinical site instructors, complete an Expense Claim Form and forward it to your program coordinator. Clinical site resource requests are usually initiated by the program coordinator. Contact LRC staff if you require information on pricing, current editions, etc., or assistance with the ordering process.
Borrowing Privileges
Books may be borrowed for 28 days. Exceptions:
- Reference books may usually be used within the LRC only.
- Short term loan books may be used within the LRC during the day. They may be borrowed after 4:00pm, to be returned by 10:00am on the following weekday. Books borrowed on Friday are due Monday morning.
- Journals may be borrowed for one week.
- Multimedia materials may be viewed within the LRC or borrowed for one week.
- One renewal is possible, unless another borrower has requested the item. Renewals may be arranged in person, by telephone at (416) 596-3123 or 1-800-387-9066 or by e-mail at lrc@michener.ca
Lost Items:
We charge for the replacement of lost items, based on current market value plus an administrative fee.
