Relevant World Wide Web sites:
BioExchange.com http://www.bioexchange.com/ Portal for biotechnology and life sciences news and information, resources and tools. Geared mainly towards the biopharmaceutical industry, but has some very useful information for students in the "tools" section (and good info on skills requirements for jobs). Although there is a "Canada"-specific information section for each category, it's clearly a US website, and Canadian content is minimal.
BioMedNet http://www.bmn.com Using BioMedNet, you can search biomedical databases and electronic journals. There are book and software reviews, news in the field, feature articles on various topics and hot careers, and links to other interesting websites. To view some information, you are required to register (free of charge).
Biosci Register http://www.biosciregister.com/ Manual compilation of biotech suppliers enabling buyers to easily source manufacturers of biotechnology equipment for cell biology, cell culture, genomics, proteomics and more. Site includes new projects, free magazines, jobs, news and events.
BIOTECanada http://www.biotech.ca BIOTECanada is the national organization representing the biotechnology community in Canada. This website contains a wealth of information on biotechnology, its history, frequently asked questions, and current issues. There is also a glossary of biotechnology-related terms and links to other biotech websites.
Biotechnology Human Resource Council http://www.biotalent.ca/default_e.asp The Biotechnology Human Resource Council was formed to address the human resource needs of the Canadian biotech community. On their website, you will find information on careers in biotechnology, industry HR reports, access to their weekly newsletter (The Biotech HR Pulse) and a national job bank.
MIT Biology Hypertextbook http://web.mit.edu/esgbio/www/ A project of MIT's Experimental Study Group, this "hypertextbook" contains a number of genetics - related chapters, such as "Chemistry Review", "Cell Biology", "Mendelian Genetics", "Central Dogma", "Prokaryotic Genetics and Gene Expression ", and "Recombinant DNA". Each chapter comes with sample problems or case studies and there is a searchable index for the entire textbook.
Protocol Online http://www.protocol-online.org A searchable collection of molecular biology lab protocols from different sources, as well as technique tips, discussion groups, a chat room, and a newsgroup.
