What is the NetLibrary eBook collection?

  • The NetLibrary eBooks (electronic books) collection includes about 100 electronic books purchased by the LRC to meet the needs of our users. The collection can be read 24 hours a day via the Internet by authorized Michener users. NetLibrary also has over 3,000 publicly accessible classics of literature and history that have no copyright restrictions.

Can I access NetLibrary eBooks from home?

  • Yes, authorized Michener users can access eBooks from home using their GroupWise (emaili) username and password.
  • Important: make sure to link to NetLibrary eBooks from the LRC's site (www.michener.ca/lrc).

How do I find out which titles are available?

  • If you do a search in th LRC's catalogue, titles that we subscribe to will be marked with a computer icon and will have a link to "Connect to this resource". This will connect you directly to the title.
  • Alternatively, you can go directly to NetLibrary and see a list of all of our subscribed titles.

How do I search within the eBook collection?

  • Use the basic search on the right of the page to search for words in the full-text of the book, or by keyword, author, title or subject.
  • Use the advanced search to get more options.

Why should I create a free account?

  • Establishing an account allows you to create a list of links to your favorite NetLibrary eBooks and add notes to eBooks.

How do I create a free account?

  • Click Create a Free Account in the upper right hand corner of NetLibrary's home page.
  • Enter the requested information.
  • Select the Create Account button.
  • Important: to search only within our subscribed eBooks, go to Edit My Account on the top right and deselect the check box next to Publicly Accessible Collection. Then, every time you log in, you can use the search feature to search only our subscribed eBooks.

How do I read a NetLibrary eBook?

  • You can read the eBook by clicking on View this eBook. While it is being viewed, nobody else can read the book.
  • To move from page to page, click on Next or Previous or Page Number (in the upper right corner). Use the Table of Contents to access individual chapters, or use Search in this eBook to find individual words in the text.
  • When you are finished with the eBook, click on Close Item at the top left. If the eBook is inactive for longer than 15 minutes, it will automatically be closed and made available for another user.

Can I download NetLibrary eBooks to my computer/a reading device?

  • Currently, Michener's NetLibrary eBooks may not be downloaded.

Can I print from NetLibrary eBooks?

  • You can print individual pages for educational and research purposes, up to 10 pages per title within a one-hour session. All subscribed titles are copyrighted.
