Vulnerable Person's Check
All Michener programs require students to submit a current and satisfactory Vulnerable Person's Check (VPC). Please specify your program and graduating year when submitting a copy of your VPC to Health Services.
| If you were born after January 1986 and are under 25 years | Apply for a VPC through the Ontario Education Services Corporation (OESC). Please visit http://www.oesc-cseo.org/English/checks.html first to review in detail whether you meet all the criteria to apply for a VPC through OESC. | If you were born before January 1986 and are over 25 years of age | Apply for a VPC through your regional police. Below is a downloadable directory of police departments in Ontario who conduct these checks and their requirements. Students not residing in these areas must call their local police to determine where the VPC can be completed. |
| International students and new immigrants | If you have been a Canadian resident for less than 6 months, apply for your Criminal Record Check from your home country. if you have resided in Canada for more than 6 months, apply for a VPC through your regional police. |

Please be aware that as of March 1, 2011 a VPC now requires the submission of fingerprints whenever the gender and date of birth of an applicant match to an existing pardoned sex offender record. This is not an accusation of criminality, but a requirement for a thorough verification to confirm identity and protect personal privacy. This process will take at least four months (120 days). Procedures and regulations for obtaining criminal record search documents are controlled by the RCMP and the Government of Canada. These procedures and regulations may change at any time without notification. The Michener Institute will endeavour to notify students of any changes as they come to our attention.
