Doors Open Toronto @ Michener
Saturday, May 28, 2011 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Have you ever wondered how lab tests were done 40 years ago? How about the way X-rays were taken? Or what a ventilator used to look like? And did you know that to analyze blood, technologists used to use their mouths to suck blood up a tube to separate samples?
We invite you to explore and learn about the history of health care and applied health education at The Michener Institute through our photography collection. Photography has always been an important part of Michener’s archival process; our photo collection has over 10,000 images from 1960 to today. Through black & white and colour images, you will see a visual representation of the different ways health care, technology, and teaching methods have evolved over a 50 year period. Photos of our retired equipment will be on display for visitors to see and compare to the newer models currently used for teaching. You will be amazed to see just how much modern technology has changed applied health education and practice in Canada!
