Continuing Education Course Formats

Michener's Department of Continuing Education offers professional development in a variety of formats. In addition to live courses conducted at our downtown Toronto campus and at other locations, we also offer distance education in four different modes. The method(s) of delivery is/are indicated in the "Media" section of each course description. More than one delivery mode indicates that the course is offered in multiple formats or combines several different formats.

You have one year from the start date to complete the course. Videotapes, CD-ROMs and selected online courses are available throughout the year and you may begin them at your convenience.

Sections

Some courses have multiple sections listed beneath the course description.

  • If you are using a paper registration form and are registering for a multi-section course, please include the course code, which indicates which section you are interested in attending.
  • If you are registering online, please select the icon beside the section you are interested in attending. The system will include the course code and section information automatically.

Continuing Education Course Materials

In most courses, all required materials are included in your tuition and are yours to keep. They will either be sent to you prior to the start of the course or distributed during the first class. If additional materials are required or recommended, they will be clearly indicated in the course description and may be purchased from the University of Toronto Bookstore, McMaster University Bookstore or Chapters. We regret that we are unable to provide required texts on extended loan from Michener's Learning Resource Centre.

We also recommend you use the specific edition of the textbook listed in the course description. Although the content of previous or subsequent editions may be similar, assignment questions and selected pages may differ.

Delivery of Course Materials

Videos, CD-ROMs and correspondence course material will be shipped within five business days of registration; online material will be sent at least two weeks prior to the course start date. Materials for live courses are usually distributed during class, but if advance preparation is required, they will be shipped after the registration deadline. We will notify you in the event of a delay. Delivery is by courier to your home address, usually between 0900-1700h, and requires a signature. If someone cannot be present to sign for the package, or if this is inconvenient, please provide us with an alternative address when you register.

Delivery costs, within Canada, are included in the course tuition. Additional charges may apply to international deliveries.
