Admission Procedures
To ensure you receive equal consideration in the admission process, your application and supporting admissions documentation must be received by the application deadline. This is particularly important for programs which are oversubscribed, since Michener receives many more qualified applicants than there are available places.
Admissions Process for Cardiovascular Perfusion Technology, Diagnostic Cytology, Genetics Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, Podiatric Medicine (Chiropody), Respiratory Therapy, and Ultrasound (all OCAS programs).
- All complete application received by the Application Deadline will be be processed. Complete applications include all supporting documents.
- Applications will be assessed and ranked according to Cummulative Grade Point Average and/or prerequisite courses.
- Top ranked applicants will be invited for a Multiple Mini Interview (MMI). Invitations will be sent out in early April.
- MMI's will be scheduled at The Michener Institute.
- Applicants will be re-ranked after the results of the MMI are collected.
- Offers of Admissions will be sent out the 1st week of May to the top ranked candidates. All other candidates (who were successful in the MMI) will be put on a wait list.
- Offers will continue to be sent to candidates on the waitlist, approximately every two weeks until the program is full.
International Student Information & Admission Requirements
1.Offer of Admission
Applicants who have been selected for admission into a program will receive either a provisional, or final offer of admission. Offers of admission continue to be sent out until all program spaces are filled. Critical dates for the admissions process are available from Office of the Registrar and Student Enrolment.
2. Provisional Admission
Provisional admission will be given to applicants who are attending secondary school or post-secondary institutions and whose final academic marks for required courses are not yet available.
Applicants who have received provisional admission based on mid-second-semester academic marks must provide proof of successful completion of all academic courses. Applicants who are working toward prerequisite courses, and who have not obtained a transcript showing that the prerequisite course is in progress, must supply proof of registration in the course for their documents to be assessed.
The minimum pass mark is 60% for all prerequisite courses. Applicants currently completing their required courses must maintain their marks in order to have the provisional admission made final.
Any applicant whose final mark in a prerequisite course falls below the interim mark may have their offer of admission rescinded.
3. Final Admission
Final admission will only be given to applicants who have met all of the admission criteria and who have submitted all application documentation.
4. Wait List
A wait list may be maintained until the beginning of classes for some programs. If space becomes available, wait list applicants will receive written notification and/or a phone call of an offer of admission.
5. Acceptance
An applicant may accept only one offer of admission at a time. Confirmation of acceptance must be returned directly to OCAS/OUAC/Michener on the form provided. OCAS/OUAC will notify The Michener Institute of the applicant's decision.
6. Deposit
A $500 non-refundable deposit is required upon acceptance into the following (OCAS) programs:
- Cardiovascular Perfusion Technology
- Diagnostic Cytology
- Genetics Technology
- Medical Laboratory Science
- Podiatric Medicine (Chiropody)
- Respiratory Therapy
- Ultrasound (Full Time program only)
This deposit will be applied to your first semester tuition fees.
7. Remit Tuition
Once confirmation of acceptance is received, a statement will be sent out, indicating tuition fees and the date they are due. Offers of admission will be rescinded if tuition is not paid by the due date, or if confirmation and deposit deadlines are not met. The position will then be offered to the next person on the wait list.
8. Clinical Placements
It is not always possible to place students in the site of their choice. Applicants, when confirming acceptance into a program, agree to attend any placement site that Michener arranges. These placements may be anywhere in Ontario or, for some programs, across Canada.
Students in a placement site outside Ontario may be required to sign a liability waiver and purchase additional insurance coverage should workers' compensation legislation not cover the placement. Regardless of location, students are required to pay all the costs associated with their placement (housing, travel, etc.).
Each clinical site has its own set of rules and regulations relating to staff responsibilities and functions. Students are required to become familiar with and adhere to these regulations.
9. Mandatory Health Requirements for the
