Internationally Educated Health Professionals

What is an Internationally Educated Health Professional (IEHP)?

If you were qualified as a health professional in any country outside Canada, you may be eligible to enroll with Access & Options for International Health Professionals (A&O) to assist you in certification and registration within Canada.

In order to practice in Canada, you have to demonstrate that you meet Canadian standards for entry to practice. This is usually by a combination of Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) and formal examination through a regulatory body and/or national professional association.

A & O was created in 2002 specifically to provide services to IEHPs who were qualified outside Canada, who are permanent residents of Canada (or who have been approved for immigration to Canada) and who are eligible to take the relevant certification examinations.

The Michener Institute has a strong commitment to Inter-Professional Collaboration (IPC) and many of the courses we offer to IEHPs are generic and applicable to any health related profession. We also offer the Michener English Language Assessment (MELA) and Preparation for Practice in Canadian Healthcare to assist IEHPs in all disciplines.
