GRAPHIC DESIGNER

Full Time

Reporting to the Director, Communications and Marketing, the Graphic Designer will be responsible for the design of a wide variety of print and online materials to support corporate communications and external marketing objectives. The Graphic Designer will be the primary designer of advertising, marketing, print and online materials, and will coordinate and oversee all facets of graphic design and production, ensuring consistent visual identity and quality brand standards. This role plays a critical role in Michener’s renewed approach for visual storytelling and will contribute to the organization’s brand renewal.

Position Summary

  • Design and produce innovative and compelling print and digital graphic materials such as brochures, annual reports, recruitment and continuing education publications, posters, advertisements, website banners, website graphics, info graphics, social media graphics, presentations, corporate branding collateral etc.
  • Coordinate the production of print and digital assets from start to finish, including working with internal clients and printing/production vendors and maintaining adherence to Michener’s brand standards and quality expectations
  • Source and research images, photos, videos and other properties for use in materials
  • Work as part of a team responsible for web design and content updates using a CMS and coordinate the ongoing development of new design features and functionality on the website
  • Collaborate with vendors as required including media buying and placement firms, printing production companies, product and merchandise suppliers, website developers etc
  • Liaise with internal clients, including those within the department and throughout the organization with a commitment to premier customer service and quality
  • Assist in the production of digital assets such as in-house videos, including videography and editing, and preparing video assets for posting online and in social media

Position Qualifications:

  • Graduate of a university or college graphic design program
  • A minimum 3 years’ graphic design experience, preferably within an academic or healthcare environment
  • Demonstrated technical experience within a PC or Mac based environment, with demonstrated exceptional expertise with graphic design software such as Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop
  • Demonstrated ability to develop engaging designs for various print and online media
  • Experience in designing for social media channels, including video, photos and graphics
  • Experience using website content management systems, preferably WordPress
  • Understanding of provincial accessibility standards related to communication and customer service, per the Access for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, and how they apply to graphic and web design
  • Certification as a Registered Graphic Designer or membership in the Association of Registered Graphic Designers is considered an asset
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate in a tactful, courteous and professional manner
  • Commitment to high standards of quality with meticulous attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and coordinate multiple deadlines
  • Satisfactory Canadian Police Clearance document required upon hire

Manager, Laboratory Services

(Permanent, Full-Time)

The Manager, Laboratory Services leads a team of Laboratory Technologists and Technicians to ensure all departments and programs receive specimens in a correct and timely manner.  This role will also be responsible for taking active leadership in the acquisition and maintenance of the organization’s chemical and biological equipment.  Reporting to the Chair, Medical Laboratory Sciences, the Manager, Laboratory Services:

Position Summary

  • Plans the ongoing and future department activities in consultation with the academic programs, Facilities Department, and other departments as required
  • Ensures appropriate departmental processes and procedures are in place to respond to organizational needs for laboratory services 
  • Works closely with the Facilities Department to manage the disposal of biological and chemical waste
  • Organizes and facilitates the acquisition and transportation of biological materials from clinical sites
  • Provides assistance in maintaining and calibrating Medical Laboratory instruments, in particular Chemistry and Hematology instruments
  • Oversees and implements procedures for biological and chemical safety in the organization
  • Leads WHMIS training and updating for the organization
  • Monitors the inventory for the department and ensures orders are placed in a timely manner
  • Coordinates and monitors the workflow for the department and supervises a current staff of seven
  • Prioritizes and assigns/delegates work within the department to ensure organizational needs are achieved
  • Works closely with Laboratory Technologists and Technicians to contribute to the work output from the department
  • Establishes guidelines for adequate coverage of the department to meet the needs of the organization
  • Promotes flexibility and provides opportunities for cross-training within department


Position Qualifications:

  • Five to ten years’ experience as Medical Laboratory Technologist
  • Three to five years’ experience in a supervisory capacity within laboratory setting or equivalent experience
  • Current registration as an MLT with the CMLTO and a licensee that includes Phlebotomy
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to meet deadlines and constantly shifting priorities
  • Able to work independently with little or no supervision
  • Excellent verbal, communication and computer skills
  • Skilled at problem recognition and problem solving
  • Satisfactory Canadian Police Clearance document required upon hire
